John W. Perry, III
Jonathon is a partner in the office of Perry, Balhoff, Mengis, & Burns, LLC. He earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in 2006, and proceeded to earn his law degree from the Paul M Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2010. Jonathon is admitted to practice law before all federal and state courts in Louisiana.
Professional Experience
Jonathon’s civil litigation experience includes the representation of both plaintiffs and defendants. He has served as a mediator or co-mediator in numerous cases. In recent years, Jonathon’s practice has increasingly focused on his role as a neutral, allowing him to gain experience dealing with issues such as:
• Case management;
• Allocating settlement funds to class and mass action claimants (including development and implementation of methodology);
• Reviewing reasonableness of attorneys’ fees; and
• Allocating attorneys’ fees (including resolution of common fund/benefit issues)
Representative Cases
Jonathon has participated as a neutral in a diverse assortment of complex cases. Among others, these include:
• In re: E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company C-8 Personal Injury Litigation, MDL No. 2433 (S.D. Oh. J.P.M.L.) (administered claims process for settlement of more than $600 million arising out of alleged chemical exposure due to water contamination)
• In re: General Motors LLC Ignition Switch Litigation, MDL No. 2543 (S.D.N.Y. J.P.M.L.) (implemented framework for settlement of hundreds of claimants in case arising out of alleged automotive products liability)
• In re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig “Deepwater Horizon” in the Gulf of Mexico, on April 20, 2010, MDL No. 2179 (E.D. La. J.P.M.L.) (assisted in allocation of common benefit fee totaling more than $700 million earned as a result of the Deepwater Horizon explosion and ensuing oil spill)
• Michael Arnold, et al. v. USAgencies, LLC, et al., 137758 (La. 16th J.D.C.) (recommended allocation of aggregate settlement among dozens of claimants injured in automobile accident)
